Mittal Patel works at the Royal Melbourne Hospital as well as being a visiting specialist at the Monash Medical Centre. In addition to his clinical work, he enjoys being part of the clinical research trials conducted by the unit. He also values teaching medical students, junior doctors and trainee specialists during their rotations through the unit.
He see adults and adolescents 16 years or older in the practice.
Dr. Mittal Patel is excited join the Melbourne Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Consultants in 2018.
Mittal was born in India and grew up in Zimbabwe before moving to Adelaide in order to pursue his medical degree. He completed his internship and basic physician training there before moving to Perth where he trained for 2 years in General and Acute care Medicine. He then undertook a further three years of specialist training in Allergy and Immunology in Melbourne, one year at the Alfred Hospital and two years at Royal Melbourne Hospital. During those years he worked with Dr. Celia Zubrinich and Professor Jo Douglass who mentored him and provided much needed support through his training.
As part of his training, Mittal has experience with food allergy testing and challenges, drug allergy assessment including antibiotic and anaesthetic allergy testing, insect venom immunotherapy as well as comprehensive management of allergic rhinitis. In addition to this, he treats patients with severe asthma, anaphylaxis, mastocytosis, hereditary angioedema and primary immunodeficiency.
Outside Medicine, Mittal enjoys playing racket sports, mainly tennis and badminton and occasionally enjoys golf. His friends describe him as hardworking, dedicated and always easily approachable for a chat. He looks forward to working in a collaborative fashion to help provide a much-needed service in the field of allergy and immunology.
